The GOPAS IT training center is the largest information technology training provider on the Czech and Slovak markets. It has 3 branches in Prague, Brno and Bratislava. The technical courses are attended annualy by almost 30 000 students, most of them IT specialists. Despite operating on a quite small market, GOPAS is one of the major IT training providers in Europe. On its own premises GOPAS has in total 41 computer classrooms and 4 mobile learning labs. GOPAS possesses several authorisations from software producers, including Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions, the highest possible Microsoft authorisation, which it was the first training centre in the Czech Republic to obtain. GOPAS has approximately 50 internal employees and over 150 external staff.
Outline of the company’s history
It all began in June 1992, when GOPAS was awarded its first authorisation for computer training. This was for training in SCO Unix, which was taught in GOPAS training centre's very first days. The first of these courses was held in September 1992. At first, these courses took place in a classroom rented from the Czech Technical University in Charles Square in Prague, but despite these humble beginnings it quickly earned a reputation for high-quality training, as evidenced by the SCO Gold Award that GOPAS was awarded in August 1993.
||In the same year, the training centre expanded to another 2 classrooms and added Microsoft and Informix product courses to its portfolio. In October 1993 our training center moved to its current location in Kodaňská Palace in Prague 10, where it then occupied 3 computer classrooms.
In 1994 GOPAS was accredited as a Microsoft Authorized Training Education Center (MS ATEC), which was later upgraded to Microsoft Senior Certified Training Education Center (MS SCTEC), the highest authorisation conferred by Microsoft. In SCO Unix training, GOPAS also received the SCO Silver Award that year. The high standard of SCO Unix training was also borne out by the prestigious award of Instructor of the Year that a GOPAS training center instructor – Andrej Meravý, now its technical director – obtained in 1996.
In 1996, GOPAS became the first training centre to acquire an ISO 9001 certificate and re-training accreditation from the Ministry of Education. It also expanded into another computer classroom.
|By 1997 GOPAS was operating a total of 7 computer classrooms. GOPAS was awarded the Czech Made quality award in that same year. On 1 January 1998, GOPAS IT training center opened two classrooms at its new branch in Brno. That year also brought it a new accreditation from Oracle – OAEC (Oracle Authorized Education Center).
The most important turning point in the company’s history came in 1999. In September that year GOPAS became the sole partner of ExecuTrain, the world leader in computer training. That made it part of a worldwide network of leading training centres.
Responding to strong demand, in 1999 our computer school also increased the number of classrooms to 12 in Prague and 10 in Brno. It became an accredited training centre for Software602, but even more importantly for training and testing under the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) standard. Additionally, since 1999 GOPAS IT training center has been an authorised testing centre for Prometric (Prometric APTC) and VUE (Virtual University Enterprises). What is more, in the year 2000 it became an official partner of IBM for certified training in Lotus Notes.
In 2002 GOPAS training center became the first training centre in the Czech Republic to become a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions, which made it one of the world’s leading training centres.
||In 2004 we took over the entire 9th floor of Kodaňská Palace in Prague, which had been renovated and designed especially for the requirements of high-quality training and testing. On 10th May a new branch in Bratislava, Slovakia, was officially opened with 7 computer classrooms. GOPAS IT training center currently operates a total of 41 classrooms.
