“Artificial intelligence” is at the peak of the hype curve, making it very difficult to get through a swarm of meaningless buzzwords, marketing fog, exaggerated expectations, enthusiastic evangelists, and equally enthusiastic doomsayers. Will AI destroy programmers? Definitely not. Will it change their work? Definitely yes. Moreover, today everyone talks about it wisely—often the loudest being those who mainly know the buzzwords and primarily want to sell you their service, without which they claim you surely can’t manage. That’s why we have prepared an afternoon seminar for you, in which we will try to describe the current state of AI tools for developers, such as GitHub Copilot. We look at it pragmatically: these are valuable tools that can extremely simplify work and truly change what a programmer does and how. We will show you a world beyond cheap demos and wow effects, where AI can genuinely help you and what, on the other hand, you should not expect from it. Everything will be described from the perspective of a .NET developer using Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and GitHub Copilot, but a significant part of the content will also be transferable to other environments and tools.
