• You will gain an overview of data protection legislation, in particular the GDPR and other relevant legal regulations at the national level
• In a hands-on exercise, you will try out case-study analysis and the identification of personal data
• In a discussion, you will find out how the laws affect organisations' day-to-day operations
• In a workshop, you will master the basics of processing and protecting personal data in organisations

2 Implementing Data Protection

• You will find out which technical and organisational measures serve to protect data – encryption, anonymisation and security policies
• You will learn how to safeguard the rights of data subjects – the right to be forgotten, the right of access to data and the right to rectification
• In a hands-on exercise, you will try out designing processes to ensure GDPR compliance within an organisation
• In a discussion, we will address ethical questions and dilemmas in data protection

3 Current Challenges and Future Developments in Data Protection

• You will understand how new technologies affect data protection – cloud services, big data and artificial intelligence
• You will find out how international data transfers work – standard contractual clauses, privacy shield frameworks (Privacy Shield) and appropriate safeguards
• In a hands-on exercise, you will try out carrying out risk assessments and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) when using new technologies
