Business Analysis - Introduction

• In this course, you will learn how to use information from BABOK® (A Guide to The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) and how to use the basic elements of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) , Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) and ArchiMate to create analytical documents.

• This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn and understand the fundamentals of Business Analysis in the Information Technology industry.
• The official title of the role that the course participant performs with the employer does not matter.

• Basic experience using MS-Word, MS-Excel.

• Technical lecture with practical demonstrations, computer exercises.

• Publication of the material covered in printed or online form, derived from a presentation created in MS PowerPoint.

• Introduction to BABOK® (A Guide to The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) and Agile Extension to the BABOK® Guide. Together, these two documents contain descriptions of 74 techniques recommended for Business Analysis. o Processes for conducting Business Analysis described in the BABOK®. o The managerial part of the techniques in the BABOK®. o The developer's part of the techniques in BABOK®. o Selecting techniques from the BABOK for a specific project.
• Creating a vision for the project

o Purpose of the "Project Vision" document. What is it? What does it relate to? o Recommended structure and content of the document. o What to avoid when creating it. o During the course, participants will gradually create their own "Project Vision" document in MS-Word and MS-Excel.

• Requirements gathering (or User Story) in Business Analysis. Linking requirements to the SW application model.
• Definition of information using UML (Unified Modeling Language) in Business Analysis.
• Describing an activity using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) in Business Analysis.
• Determining the structure of a SW application. Estimation of the workload and cost of SW application development. In this course we will teach you the basics of ArchiMate, UML and BPMN to the extent required for Business Analysis. Basic knowledge of ArchiMate, UML and BPMN is an advantage in this course, not a requirement.

If you want to learn UML and BPMN in detail, then we recommend taking the GOC26 and GOC270 courses. During the course, the instructor will draw the necessary models in Sparx Enterprise Architect (version 17.1 or higher). Each participant will receive an electronic manual for Enterprise Architect (EA) in Czech language. We will teach you the basic operation of the EA tool to the extent required for the course. Learning the detailed EA controls is not covered in this course (we recommend the GOC260 course).

However, participants can draw analytical models in any tool they install on their computer.
